Fall Fun in the Mountains

This is our FAVORITE time of the year, and more specifically, my favorite MONTH of the year.  The weather is incredible, the colors of the trees on the mountains are spectacular, and there is SO MUCH to do!  Since my last blog, the boys (all 3 of them) and I have done a lot.  Last Sunday we went to the Eliada Home Corn Maze.  Since Marcus was a baby, I've taken him every year, and this was Mark's first time (Titus', too).  Normally, I've taken him when they first opened and there weren't too many people there.  This time was different.  It was mid afternoon on a Sunday and they were LOADED with people.  Despite the crowd, Marcus enjoyed the mini-corn maze, hay bale maze, corn box, slides, and corn cannon.  For whatever reason, they wouldn't let parents ride the cow train this year, and since he was too afraid to go by himself, he missed out.  Oh well, it was still super enjoyable.
On Monday we started some informal pre-schooling by studying the letter A.  We went over sound recognition and how to write it.  We did a small "A" lesson every day and ended our  week with a "field trip" to the apple orchard in Hendersonville.  A is for apple, right?!  It was WONDERFUL!  The weather, again, was perfect and there was SO MUCH to do. They had such fun playgrounds, a small assortment of animals to observe (always a Marcus favorite), a bamboo maze, hayrides, TONS of apple foods, and obviously acres upon acres of  trees where you could pick your own apples.  I let Marcus lead the way so he first played on the playground, then we saw all the animals, went through the bamboo maze, then went to pick apples.  He got his own basket and picked fuji apples all by himself.  Afterwards we took a break and got an apple cider slushie and apple cider doughnuts.  They may sound confusing but they were SO DELICIOUS!  We ended our time at the orchard by a beautiful hayride that went all around the property and showed off some incredible views.  After all, the name was "Skytop Orchard" and it was literally on the TOP of a mountain.
Finally today, we heard about a 60th anniversary party for the Skyland Fire and Rescue Department in Arden, near where Mark's warehouse is.  There was free chick-fil-a, BBQ, drinks, and all kinds of free goodies for the children.  They had a fire truck simulator as well as real fire trucks that the children could get in and explore.  I hate that I forgot my camera but it was a really wonderful time, nonetheless.

He came down the slide so fast, he twisted mid slide.

Even Daddy took a turn. :)

He wasn't too sure about the spider web.

Everybody's favorite - the corn box!

The mini-corn maze for kids.

Shucking his first ear of corn.

Clearly not impressed...

Big, tall stalks on a BEAUTIFUL Fall day.

Not really doing the hay maze the way it was designed.

Another round on the slides, please!

Loading the corn cannon.

Ready, aim, FIRE!

Looking to see where it went.

I'm not sure what you call these things, but Marcus said they were rabbits.

Apple stamping

He loves anything to do with paint.

Practicing the letter A with finger painting.

A dump truck and water - what more does he need?

Laughing because he just splashed me.

Sweet Titus enjoyed the front porch, too.

Sweet smiles.

Good thing he's handsome because I was less than impressed with the blowout that caused him to come home naked.

In awe of the enormous pumpkins.

Both boys on the spider

Cheesy smiles all around.

Apple and Pumpkin play huts

The slides were fast and he LOVED it.

Talking to the chickens and peacocks.

Hayrides on the hill.

Entrance to the bamboo maze.

It was like a cool jungle in there.

Pointing at the ducks and geese on the pond.

Billy Goats!

BEAUTY!

A boy and a tractor.

He chose his basket & was ready to get some apples!

He got right in there and picked his own apples.

Since Titus had just eaten, he was in a milk coma & slept through the whole thing.

The apples were plentiful!

Counting his apples.  He said he only wanted ten.

And ten is what he got.

Putting the apples on the counter to pay for what we picked.

Enjoying an apple cider slushie.

Snack time at the pumpkins.

Big ol' feet!

Sweet little grin

Titus Jeffrey

Titus is mad because Marcus won't share his drink.

Another round in the bamboo maze before we leave.

Proof that I was there, too.

Climbing apple trees

Hayride!

Trying to touch the trees as we drove by.

Love him!
