A Spring Break Overnight Trip & Easter

Last week, schools around here were out for Spring Break and when they're out, there are no children's activities at our church.  We have commitments on both Tuesday and Wednesday nights and with both those nights free, we decided to take an overnight trip to Raleigh and Chapel Hill to visit some folks.  Wednesday is Mark's day off and Tuesday is a short day for him, so he got up super early, and was home by 10:30am.  We left around 11am and drove straight to Raleigh, our state capital.  Two boys from the Rennard family are attending NC State University so we met up with them for an ice cream treat and a tour of part of the campus.  Let's get real - we just checked out the baseball facilities.  Will and Nathan are the two oldest of six children, all of whom I babysat when I was in college.  Both boys helped Mark on the bread route during their summers as well.  Now THEY are in college and I feel old.  Ha!
After our time with them, we had supper in downtown Raleigh then went to my cousin's home just on the outskirts of Chapel Hill.  My cousin Kris has lived the past twenty years in Belgium but she, her husband, and three boys moved here last summer. Marcus took a particular liking to her youngest, Indi, and they had fun together while the adults were able to catch up.  We spent the night with them, got up and had breakfast the next morning, then went to UNC Chapel Hill.
There, we met up with Duncan, the oldest of the five Dorris children that I used to babysit as well.  Duncan also helped Mark on the bread route at different times and pulled up for him when he was in town.  (*Note* "Pull-up" is just a term in the bread world that means you put any backstock on the shelf and if there is none, you just pull the bread up to the front, make it all flush, and looking nice.)  Duncan is a senior, planning to graduate on Mother's Day, and we've been telling him for years we'd come visit.  Well, we might've pushed it to the last minute, but we finally did as promised.
Even though it was a whirlwind couple of days, we enjoyed beautiful weather both days, we walked a LOT on both campuses, and it was really great to see all who we visited.
For Easter, we stayed in town.  We went to Sunrise Service at our church and it was a frigid 33 degrees Fahrenheit.  The boys were dressed and wrapped in blankets but it was still pretty chilly.  We ate breakfast there, went to Sunday School, regular preaching, then stayed home, resting the remainder of the day.  Below are some pictures leading up to Easter and how we taught/celebrated it with the boys.

Sweet morning snuggles on the couch

This picture makes me giggle because Marcus chose to sit in the high chair (usually for a baby) and Titus wanted to sit in Marcus' old car seat.  Either way, they sweetly read books for probably 10 minutes.

Causing trouble and having fun at the grocery store.

Many of you ask about our nephews, Hunter and Tyson.  They are doing wonderfully and are as cute as ever.

Here we are with Nathan (red shirt) and Will (white shirt) at NC State.  Their mascot is the Wolfpack so Marcus wanted to sit on the wolf.

Checking out the baseball field at NC State.

Since Titus fell off the bed during the night, Mark went to sleep with the boys and gave me a whole bed to myself (and my growing belly).  Here shows a picture of how much Titus moves around at night and how hard of a sleeper Marcus is.

At the famous, "well" with Duncan.  Both Titus and Marcus were sporting their Tarheel gear.

Family Photo in front of the world's largest ram (school mascot).

The beautiful bell tower went off every fifteen minutes.

Trying on an old-school Tarheel football helmet.

Daddy treated us to a sweet treat before we finished our tour.

Checking out the Tarheel baseball field.

We found an unlocked gate and were able to watch a few minutes of baseball practice.

Needless to say, all three of the fellas loved this.

We use the Resurrection Eggs to help tell the story of Easter.

Titus watching Marcus put his Spring Chick letters in ABC order.

Making resurrection rolls while little brother napped.

The rolls were empty, just like Jesus' tomb!

One cool dude

This kid keeps us on our toes!

Sorry Jays fans, we were ready for Opening Day with our Braves/Georgia gear.  They are supposed to stink this year, but they're 5-1 so far!

Marcus showing off his symmetrical pattern block design.

This kid cracks us up!

Cooling off in the shade at the park.

Big brother pushing little brother.

This kid is fearless at the park.

Double slide = Double trouble

Here's one more of Hunter and Tyson - hanging out on their front porch.

These boys LOVE some corn on the cob.  Seriously, they both can eat two whole ears!

Here's a fine looking bread man in front of a fantastic display at Wal-Mart.

In two short months Titus will get to wear our beloved birthday hat when he turns two.

The weather has been nice enough to play outside a lot.  Here, the boys are playing with dry, colored pasta.

They were "cooking."

Titus carries this Bible around everywhere.  I can only hope and pray that he loves God's Word as much when he's older as he appears to now.

A Visit from the Grandparents

Mark's 36th birthday was a few weeks ago and his parents came down for a visit.  It was pretty good weather and we enjoyed our time with them.  As usual, they were amazed at how the boys have changed, especially Titus now that he's starting to talk and form sentences.  Below are some pictures of our sweet time together.

Marcus found his old potty and introduced it to Titus.

While intrigued and interested in the potty, I'm not quite sure this is what it's supposed to be used for.

My cup overflows.

Our BIG boys!

Titus LOVES being in Daddy's "tuck."

Onesie pajamas and bunny slippers.  Does it get any cuter?

Marcus used his own earned money to buy this parachute man at the toy store.

I found this Hungry Hungry Hippos game for $5 and the boys LOVE it.

Sweet little Blue Jays fan.

Watching a UNCA Baseball game with Daddy is the BEST!

Marcus caught, Titus hit, and Daddy pitched.

Grandma went with us to the Mountain Play Lodge.

Climbing playground "trees" is lots of fun.

Supper at Yoshida's in honor of Daddy's birthday.

When the Canadians are in town, we dress appropriately. :)

Throwing with his dad.

And the love obsession with baseball continues.

Titus was throwing with Grandpa.  Mark pitched, and Marcus hit.

He.  Is.  Ready.

He's working at it on his own level.

This picture cracks me up.  Can you guess who it is?

Three generations of Schuurman men.

Some things never change.  This man LOVES his Vitamin D.

Sharing hugs and tickles with Grandma.

These boys didn't like the fact that their grandparents were leaving after this picture, but they sure enjoyed the time we spent with them while they were here.

Titus could actually throw it good enough for Marcus to hit it!

School time!  Titus working on colors - Marcus working on geography.  He knows around 20 states and their locations so far!

While driving one day last week, I heard Marcus reading this book ALL BY HIMSELF in the back seat.  I parked and videoed what was going on.  He hadn't memorized it because it was new to us.  He was actually putting his skills to use and reading a book on his own.  I was SO EXCITED! And he as super proud of himself.

We sure do love this little cutie pie.

Granddad Bolen got Marcus a new sling shot and it's been a big hit around here.

Riding bikes at the park.

This big boy gets stronger every day.
